Rare Champagne
For the first time in its history, Maison Rare Champagne has earned a place on the prestigious Drinks International list. Ranking 15th, it is also the only new entry for 2024. Rare Champagne traces its noble origins to 1785, when Queen Marie Antoinette tasted the house’s first cuvée. Produced in limited quantities and proudly exclusive, it stands as a regal departure from convention. Since 1976, the house has released only 14 vintages: 1976, 1979, 1985, 1988, 1990, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2006, 2008 and 2013, plus the Rare Rosé Millésime in 2007, 2008, 2012 and 2014.
Rare Champagne moves beyond established norms to deliver a Champagne without equal. The Cellar Master shapes each vintage to capture the character of an exceptional year, amplifying nature itself, and pursues the silky texture and lasting freshness that define the wine. Vineyards are chosen for how they express themselves, not for their position on the Premier and Grand Cru scale. Taking an unconventional path, he selects Chardonnay from the Montagne de Reims, a district best known for Pinot Noir, which yields striking, precise minerality. He also favors Montagne de Reims Pinot Noir for its intensity, power and silky texture. This uncommon approach to blending gives Rare Champagne its complex, distinguished and pure style.
The house recently earned B Corp Certification, joining the selective B Lab community, a non-profit network founded in 2006. B Corp ranks among the most demanding certifications, assessing a company’s social and environmental impact through more than 200 questions on governance, workers, communities and the environment. The certification reflects more than 28 months of collective effort by our teams worldwide, led by Chief Winemaker Émilien Boutillat.
