This wine takes its name from the location of the vineyard from which the grapes come: Douro Superior (Upper Douro). The grapes used to make this wine come from our property Quinta da Cabreira where we have 114 hectares of recently planted vines.
Colomé “Auténtico” is a tribute to the pioneers who planted the vineyards and opened the winery in 1831. Since then, the vineyards at Bodega Colomé have been grown with sustainable farming practices to achieve the “authentic” expression of the terroir. Higher altitudes offer more sun, less UV protection and produce a thicker skinned grape that delivers a more robust taste with fresh acidity to support it. We believe the natural expression of the soil is captured in these wines.
This Bourgogne Chardonnay comes from a selection of our best barrels of Chardonnay. The grapes are grown in the classic regions of Puligny, Meursault, and Rully. This harmonious blend gives it both the classic character of Chardonnay from the Côte d'Or and the floral elegance typical of the Côte Châlonnaise. This cuvee pays tribute to Edme Champy who was the founder in 1720. He was visionary and developed Maison Champy from the barrels trade to wine. Six generations followed after him.
A crisp and delicate expression of Stellenbosch Chenin Blanc. This blend of French oak matured and unwoodedChenin Blanc from old vineyards presents a fine balance of natural acidity, generous fruit and a touch of roasted almonds.
The 2019 vintage was a near-perfect growing season, with cool weather through July into early August. We then saw ideal warm weather conditions until the last fruit was resting safely under the watchful eyes of winemaking teams all over the Napa Valley. Throughout our sub-appellations, harvest of our 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards began in late October and continued through the first week of November, with the long ripening season contributing to the development of beautiful fruit flavors.
