Medusa Wines was founded by friends Lydia Mondavi and Patti Hoffman to produce old-vine Zinfandel in the Napa Valley; their husband Rob Mondavi and Paul Hoffman are their winemakers. The search for great Zinfandel Vineyards led them to explore other areas of California, and they are now making wines from a variety of appellations.
We would describe all of these wines as subtly reflecting each vineyard and how the Zinfandel expresses it. All wines are aged in 1-3 year old French Oak for 8-10 months allowing the wines to soften and gain an integrated tannin structure but the oak doesn’t dominate the wine. This way, the characteristics of the vineyard really come through.
This vineyard is named for one of Amador's early settlers Henry Modani, who borke ground and completed his home in 1920. Located on a northern exposure and at a slightly higher elevation, red soils and gentel microclimate. This combination lends to a brightness and lively acidity complemented by black cobbler fruits with undertones of raspberry and superb tannin structure.
