The wines we offer from Spain come from the Priorat, Montsant, Ribera del Duero, Rias Baixas and Rioja regions. The Priorat region produces strong, intensely colored and flavored red wines that come from old, low yielding vineyards. Montsant, which surrounds the Priorat, tend to produce wines of a more refined character but equally complex.
The Ribera del Duero region offers complex red wines that are delicious when young but also have the capacity to age into magnificent Gran Reservas. The Rias Baixas region produces some of the best white wines available, with the Albarino grape likened to both Riesling and Viognier. Rioja, a collection of 3 regions, produces balanced, medium-bodied wines.
This portfolio was assembled as a result of many trips to the regions, studying the areas, meeting with dozens of producers, and evaluating hundreds of wines. As a result, we have chosen wineries to provide an excellent selection of wines from these regions.
All of the producers in our portfolio are small, family-owned wineries...some of them are exporting their wines into the U.S. for the first time. They are hand-crafted, small production wines that are excellent examples of why many of Spain's wine regions have emerged from relative obscurity to being on the forefront of world wine quality in the last twenty years.
